The Lost Library Book

I realized this morning
that I lost a library book.
I’ve never lost a library book before.

As I thought about what will happen
when I tell them, I thought maybe
I should bring up the fact that
the characters in the book are
self obsessed, drug addicted,
irresponsible adults — much like myself.
And explain to the librarian that if Alison
were the type of person to read books from
the library, she would no doubt lose them also,
in the hopes that my literary observations
would impress them so,
to spare me the cost of the book.
